2005-04-03 The Millenium Spire and Phoenix Park
Up went Nelson in old Dublin,
Up went Nelson in old Dublin.
All around O'Connell Street,
the bit of Nelson flew,
When up went Nelson and the pillar too!
I am back in Dublin for a few days. The first photos are of the statue of Admiral Horatio Nelson erected in 1811 in honor of the Battle of Trafalgar (blown up by the IRA in 1966) and it's replacement, the Millenium Spire erected in 2003.

Above: The Wellington Monument in Phoenix Park, the largest contiguous greenspace in Europe. The Duke of Wellington Monument (in commemoration of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815) is the second tallest obelisk in the world, after the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C.
Above: Phoenix Park has been home to a herd of fallow deer since 1662.
